James Ray Recruitment is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Secondary Teacher to work within an Alternative Provision setting in the Wirral. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them re-engage with education in a structured, supportive, and nurturing environment.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to secondary-aged students who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education. You will play a key role in supporting both academic progress and emotional development. Working within a specialist Alternative Provision setting, you will help create a safe, consistent, and positive learning environment where students can rebuild confidence and achieve success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver tailored lessons to meet individual learning needs
  • Support students with SEMH needs, promoting positive behaviour strategies
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students
  • Manage behaviour effectively using de-escalation techniques
  • Work collaboratively with support staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Track and monitor student progress, both academically and socially
  • Create a structured and engaging classroom environment

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience working with SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour
  • Strong behaviour management and emotional resilience
  • Ability to build rapport with disengaged or vulnerable learners
  • Flexible, patient, and empathetic approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting students who need additional guidance

Experience within Alternative Provision or PRU settings is highly desirable but not essential.
