James Phillip Financial recruitment are working with a local Chartered Wealth firm looking for a Portfolio Manager to join their expanding team. Working closely with the Deputy CIO, you will lead the construction, implementation, and evolution of my clients model portfolio proposition. You will play a central role in translating macroeconomic views into actionable portfolio decisions, while helping to scale and enhance their asset management capabilities as the business continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Strategy & Management
- Lead the design and ongoing evolution of model portfolios in line with the firm's macroeconomic outlook and asset allocation strategy
- Translate macro views into practical portfolio positioning and investment decisions
- Oversee non-standard portfolios, ensuring appropriate governance and documentation
- Contribute meaningfully to Investment Committee discussions and decisions
- Trading & Implementation
- Oversee trading activity across all platforms, ensuring efficient and timely execution
- Review and approve trade instructions, maintaining high standards of accuracy and control
- Ensure portfolios remain implementation-ready at all times
- Conduct post-trade reviews to ensure completeness and consistency across client accounts
- Performance & Reporting
- Monitor portfolio performance and positioning, identifying risks and opportunities
- Support the Deputy CIO with analysis, reporting, and strategic insights
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records across all portfolio and trading activity
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key point of contact for internal teams and external stakeholders
- Communicate investment strategy, positioning, and performance clearly and confidently
- Support client and adviser engagement where required
What Success Looks Like (First 12 Months)
- Contributing meaningfully to Investment Committee discussions and asset allocation decisions
- Enhancing the efficiency and scalability of portfolio management processes
- Maintaining strong portfolio oversight with high standards of execution and control
- Supporting the continued growth and development of the model portfolio offering
Skills & Experience
- Essential
- Experience managing or supporting model portfolios within a wealth or asset management environment
- Strong understanding of financial markets, asset allocation, and macroeconomic drivers
- Experience overseeing or executing trades across investment platforms (e.g. Fusion, Transact)
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate investment strategy clearly
- Strong Academic background ideally: - Degree or Similar - 2:1 and above - CISI or Similar (ideally Level 7, but minimum Level 4)
Salary £50-£60k plus half yearly bonus plus excellent benefits.
