A fast growing financial services group is seeking a Trading and Settlements Director to help lead and build out its trading operations, post trade workflow, risk system oversight and execution support infrastructure across a multi asset investment environment. This is a senior operational role sitting between portfolio managers, traders, brokers, prime brokers, technology, operations, compliance and senior management. The role is not a pure trading position, nor is it a pure technology, legal or compliance role. It is best suited to someone who understands the full trade lifecycle and can help build, manage and control the operating framework around execution, portfolio manager onboarding, trading risk structures, settlement oversight and post trade governance. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that trading and post trade workflows are robust, efficient, controlled and scalable as the business continues to grow.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and oversee trading and post trade workflows across fixed income, equities, FX, listed derivatives and other relevant instruments.
- Act as a central coordination point between portfolio managers, traders, brokers, prime brokers, custodians, operations, compliance and technology teams.
- Support the transmission, monitoring and confirmation of trade instructions, ensuring clear process discipline from instruction through to execution, booking, confirmation and settlement.
- Own and oversee the operational use of trading and risk systems, including trading permissions, portfolio limits, control parameters and workflow rules.
- Support the onboarding of new portfolio managers, traders, brokers, prime brokers, custodians, clearing accounts and relevant counterparties.
- Help design and maintain trading risk structures within the firm’s systems.
- Support the implementation, configuration and enhancement of OMS, EMS, market data, trading and risk platforms.
- Work with technology and operations teams to design workflow changes, system improvements and platform enhancements.
- Oversee post trade processes including trade capture, booking, affirmation, confirmation, settlement monitoring, reconciliations, margin oversight, valuations and exception management.
- Ensure settlement issues, failed trades, breaks, missing data, incorrect bookings and other post trade exceptions are identified, escalated and resolved promptly.
- Support the firm’s trading governance framework, including record keeping, best execution evidence, transaction reporting, audit trails and conflict management.
- Work closely with compliance and risk teams to ensure trading and post trade workflows are aligned with relevant regulatory and internal policy requirements.
- Help develop scalable operating procedures, control checklists, escalation processes and operational resilience arrangements.
Experience required
- Strong experience in trading operations, trade support, middle office, prime brokerage client services, securities operations, investment operations or dealing operations.
- Experience in a broking, fund management, asset management, wealth management, DFM, prime brokerage, structured product, platform or investment services environment.
- Good understanding of the full trade lifecycle across execution, booking, confirmation, affirmation, settlement, reconciliation, reporting and exception management.
- Exposure to multiple asset classes, ideally including fixed income, equities, FX, listed derivatives, swaps, repos or structured products.
- Experience working closely with portfolio managers, traders, brokers, prime brokers, custodians, administrators and technology teams.
- Practical exposure to OMS, EMS, market data, risk systems or trading platforms.
- Strong understanding of trading controls, settlement risk, operational risk and post trade governance.
- Experience supporting system implementation, workflow design, platform changes, broker onboarding or operational process improvements would be highly advantageous.
The ideal candidate
The ideal candidate will combine trading environment credibility with middle office discipline and platform build experience. They will be highly organised, detail focused and comfortable operating in a hands on, build orientated environment. They should be able to sit confidently between front office, operations, technology, compliance and risk, while communicating clearly with senior stakeholders and external counterparties. This role would suit someone who has worked close to a trading desk, but whose real strength is making sure the trading operation, systems, controls, settlement processes and post trade workflows function properly from start to finish.
