An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chartered Building Surveyor to join my client’s established Architecture and Building Surveying team in Exeter. My client is one of the UK’s most respected and established property consultancies, with a strong national presence and an excellent reputation across commercial property, development, rural estates, heritage assets and professional advisory services.
Based within a multidisciplinary Exeter office of 35+ professionals, you will join an experienced Architecture and Building Surveying team that forms part of a wider national discipline of more than 50 specialists. The role offers an excellent combination of professional Building Surveying and project-led work, with exposure to a varied portfolio of commercial, residential, heritage, institutional and privately owned property. There is considerable scope to tailor the position around the successful individual’s experience.
The Role:
- Working closely with colleagues across Building Surveying, Architecture and the wider multidisciplinary business, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality professional and project services to an established client base.
- Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing specifications and tender documentation
- Managing tender processes and contractor appointments
- Contract Administration and project delivery
- Delivering projects and programmes of work typically ranging from £30,000 to £2 million, subject to experience
- Undertaking pre-purchase Building Surveys across residential and commercial property
- Technical due diligence and acquisition advice
- Preparing Schedules of Condition for leasehold and other purposes
- Undertaking property inspections and preparing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Schedules
- Preparing reinstatement cost assessments across individual properties and wider portfolios
- Providing technical advice and consultancy on building defects and undertaking defect diagnosis
- Advising clients on refurbishment and improvement projects
- Supporting conservation and heritage-led projects where appropriate
- Providing advice in relation to landlord and tenant matters
- Delivering a consistently high standard of client service
- Maintaining and developing relationships with the existing client base
- Identifying opportunities for additional instructions and generating new leads
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across Architecture and other property disciplines
About You:
My client is looking for a commercially aware Building Surveyor who combines strong technical capability with excellent communication and client-facing skills. Ideally, you will have:
- MRICS Chartered status
- Strong post-qualified Building Surveying experience
- Experience delivering both professional and project-based Building Surveying instructions
- Contract Administration and project delivery experience
- Strong technical knowledge across a variety of property types
- Experience undertaking Building Surveys and technical due diligence
- Knowledge of Schedules of Condition, PPM programmes, defect analysis and reinstatement cost assessments
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- The ability to develop trusted relationships with clients, contractors and other professional advisers
- A commercial approach and an interest in developing client relationships and generating new work
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing to a wider multidisciplinary team
- Experience working with historic, listed or heritage buildings would be highly advantageous
- A full UK driving licence
For more experienced candidates, a proven ability to win work, generate fees and develop long-term client relationships would be particularly attractive.
