My client, a leading UK property consultancy, is seeking to appoint a Senior Surveyor to join their Infrastructure Property Management team, managing a significant operational land and property portfolio associated with National Grid infrastructure across the South West of England and South Wales. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced property professional seeking a highly autonomous, field-based role with genuine flexibility and long-term career progression within a major infrastructure portfolio.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a varied portfolio of rural and commercial property interests surrounding operational National Grid sites, working across a broad geographical region including South West England, South Wales and parts of Cornwall.

The Role

The position will involve the day-to-day management of a diverse property portfolio comprising operational land, commercial property and rural estate interests. Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of National Grid related sites across the South West region
  • Conducting regular site inspections and property compliance reviews
  • Liaising with tenants, landowners, contractors, stakeholders and professional advisers
  • Managing landlord and tenant matters, lease events and tenancy issues
  • Coordinating repairs, maintenance and planned works
  • Overseeing health & safety and compliance requirements across sites
  • Managing vacant and tenanted property interests
  • Assisting with asset management initiatives and operational improvements
  • Preparing reports, budgets and client updates
  • Working closely with internal surveying, building consultancy and rural teams

This is a practical, hands-on surveying role requiring regular travel and site attendance. Candidates should be comfortable operating independently and managing their own diary across a geographically spread portfolio.

Working Arrangements

This is a predominantly remote/home-based position offering significant flexibility and autonomy. Day-to-day work will primarily involve travel across the South West of England and South Wales portfolio. The role would suit someone who enjoys being site-based and working autonomously rather than operating within a traditional office environment.

Location

Candidates should ideally reside within the M4/M5 corridor or surrounding South West region, including locations such as: Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire, Swindon, Gloucestershire, Cotswolds, South Oxfordshire, Exeter, Reading (nothing further east). The portfolio extends across South West England, South Wales and selected sites in Cornwall.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate is likely to come from one of the following backgrounds:

  • Commercial Property Management
  • Rural Surveying / Estate Management
  • Infrastructure or Utilities Property
  • Mixed rural/commercial estate management

Candidates should possess:

  • Strong commercial property management experience
  • Good landlord & tenant knowledge
  • Strong understanding of health & safety and property compliance
  • Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a regional portfolio
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly

Experience managing operational infrastructure sites or rural estates would be advantageous but is not essential.

Qualifications

MRICS qualification preferred. AssocRICS candidates considered. Strong Surveyor-level candidates working towards qualification also encouraged to apply.

Salary & Benefits

Senior Surveyor: Up to £50,000 basic salary, £4,500 car allowance. Surveyor: Up to £45,000 basic salary, £3,500 car allowance. In addition, the role offers:

  • Flexible and remote working
  • Significant autonomy
