An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor to join one of the UK’s most respected and prestigious property consultancies at Associate Director or Director level. My client is seeking an ambitious, commercially minded individual to play a pivotal role in growing and strengthening their Building Surveying presence across the South West.
This is a senior appointment offering genuine autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to shape and expand a regional service line within an established national business. This role would suit a proven fee earner and relationship-builder with strong market presence, a passion for winning new business, and the drive to establish and grow client relationships across Exeter, Taunton, Truro, Bath or Salisbury.
While leadership experience is welcomed, this is not a heavily team-management focused position — the emphasis is very much on business development, client engagement, and commercial growth. You will be joining a highly regarded multidisciplinary consultancy with an outstanding reputation across commercial property, rural estates, heritage assets, development, and professional advisory services.
The Role: This is a high-profile position with significant scope to influence regional growth and develop your own client base while delivering a broad range of professional and project-led building surveying services. Responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing business opportunities across the South West region
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships with key stakeholders and property owners
- Driving fee generation and contributing towards regional P&L performance
- Winning and delivering new instructions across both professional and project work
- Undertaking high-quality building surveying services across a varied property portfolio
- Contract administration and project delivery
- Technical due diligence and building surveys
- Dilapidations, schedules of condition, and landlord & tenant matters
- Planned preventative maintenance programmes
- Defect diagnosis and technical consultancy
- Advising on refurbishment, conservation, and heritage-led projects
- Supporting wider multidisciplinary collaboration across planning, development, estate management, and architecture teams
The position offers substantial autonomy and the ability to genuinely shape the future direction of the regional Building Surveying offering.
About My Client: My client is widely regarded as one of the most established and influential names within the UK property and construction consultancy sector, operating across a national network of multidisciplinary offices. Their Building Surveying and Architecture teams work across an impressive and diverse client portfolio including commercial property, landed estates, heritage buildings, institutional assets, development projects, and private clients.
The South West business continues to grow steadily, however there remains significant untapped opportunity within several key locations — making this an ideal opportunity for a commercially driven surveyor looking to make a genuine impact and build something substantial with the backing of a market-leading brand.
The organisation offers the infrastructure, reputation, and client platform of a major consultancy while still allowing senior individuals the freedom and autonomy to develop their own market presence and specialism.
About You: MRICS qualified with significant post-qualified experience within Building Surveying. Strong professional services and project experience, proven ability to win work and develop client relationships, commercially astute with an entrepreneurial mindset, and experience contributing to business growth and fee generation are essential. A strong network across the South West market is desirable, and experience with heritage and historic buildings is highly advantageous. Comfortable operating autonomously and leading from the front with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills is required. A full UK driving licence is also necessary.
What’s on Offer: Highly competitive and flexible salary package, bonus structure, car allowance, director-level opportunity within a nationally recognised consultancy, genuine autonomy and market influence, strong progression and long-term career potential, access to prestigious projects and high-profile clients, collaborative multidisciplinary environment, flexible working arrangements, and an excellent wider benefits package.
Why Apply? This is a rare opportunity to join a prestigious consultancy at a senior level during a key period of regional growth. The role offers the platform, brand, and autonomy for an ambitious Chartered Building Surveyor to significantly grow a regional presence, develop longstanding client relationships, and play a major role in shaping future success across the South West.
For the right individual, this represents far more than a standard surveying role — it is a genuine opportunity to build, influence, and lead within one of the industry’s most respected businesses.
