We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate band 6 Diabetes Support Nurse to join our dynamic team. The Diabetes Support Nurse will play a crucial role in providing specialised care to patients with diabetes, ensuring they receive high standards of treatment to effectively manage their condition.

Main duties of the job:

  • To support the work of the Diabetes team to provide clinical support and expertise to Diabetic in-patients within the Trust and outpatient departments.
  • To provide a high standard of nursing care and to develop existing specialist Diabetes knowledge and skills.
  • To act as a Diabetes nursing resource giving advice and psychological support to patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
  • To review nursing practice and support the implementation of appropriate changes based on research/best practice.
  • To assist with the development and implementation of audit, quality and Risk Management initiatives.
  • To contribute to the 7 day Diabetes Inpatient service.

Person specification:

Education and qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Qualification relating to Diabetes

Experience and knowledge:

  • NHS experience in an acute setting

Skills, abilities and competencies:

  • Accurate document presentation and attention to detail
  • Experience in patient education
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals
