Mechanically Biased M&E Project Manager Hackney | Residential M&E | Permanent If you’re a mechanically biased M&E Project Manager with proper residential experience, this is a strong opportunity to take ownership of a larger residential scheme in London. You’ll be joining an established M&E contractor delivering mechanical and electrical building services across residential and commercial projects. The role is mechanically biased, but you will need to be comfortable overseeing both mechanical and electrical packages, working closely with site teams, subcontractors, consultants, the client team and internal management. This is not a role for someone who has only managed small works or jumped from job to job. The business needs someone stable, capable and people-focused who can take ownership of delivery, keep the project team organised and make sure information, programme, quality and reporting are properly controlled. The role You’ll be responsible for managing the M&E delivery on a larger residential scheme in Hackney. The mechanical side will be your main strength, but you will need enough all-round M&E knowledge to coordinate the electrical works, understand interfaces, ask the right questions and keep the full services package moving. The work is expected to involve mechanical plant, heating, domestic water, public health, ventilation, risers, laterals, apartment fit-out, drainage, controls interfaces, electrical containment, power, lighting, life safety systems, testing, commissioning and handover documentation. You’ll need to be strong on site, good with people and comfortable using project systems, trackers, programmes, progress reports and close-out documents. What you’ll be doing Managing M&E delivery on a larger residential project. Taking responsibility for programme, procurement, labour, subcontractors, technical information, QA, commissioning and handover. Leading the mechanical package while coordinating closely with the electrical team and wider project stakeholders. Managing plantrooms, heating, public health, ventilation, risers, laterals, apartment fit-out, drainage and associated mechanical systems. Coordinating M&E interfaces with architectural, structural, fire stopping, builders work and fit-out packages. Reviewing drawings, specifications, technical submissions, RFIs, RAMS, installation methods and programme requirements. Managing subcontractors and site teams to make sure works are delivered safely, correctly and to programme. Building strong working relationships with clients, consultants, main contractors, suppliers and internal teams. Producing and maintaining trackers, progress reports, lookaheads, programme updates and close-out schedules. Identifying risks, delays, design issues and coordination problems early. Supporting commercial teams with variation information, site records, change control and programme impact. Driving quality inspections, snagging, testing, commissioning, O&M information and project handover. Maintaining high standards around health and safety, communication, site discipline and client confidence. What you’ll need You’ll need experience as an M&E Project Manager, Mechanical Project Manager, Building Services Project Manager or mechanically biased M&E Manager. A strong mechanical background is essential. You must have experience working on larger residential schemes. You should be comfortable overseeing both mechanical and electrical packages, even if your strongest technical knowledge is mechanical. You’ll need to understand residential M&E delivery, including risers, laterals, apartments, plantrooms, ventilation, public health, heating, controls, commissioning and handover. You should be good with people and confident managing subcontractors, site teams, consultants, clients and internal stakeholders. You’ll need to be comfortable using a computer, producing reports, maintaining trackers, updating programmes and keeping project information organised. A stable career history is important. This role will suit someone who has stayed with employers long enough to properly deliver projects, rather than someone who moves every few months. Experience working for an M&E contractor or building services contractor would be strongly preferred. SMSTS, CSCS and relevant mechanical or building services qualifications would be useful. The right person You’re organised, steady and good at managing people. You understand that project management is not just about knowing the technical answer. It is about keeping people aligned, making sure actions are closed out and keeping the client, subcontractors and internal team clear on what is happening next. You can manage the detail without losing the bigger picture. You are comfortable walking the job, checking progress, updating trackers, chasing information and having the conversations needed to keep delivery moving. You’ll suit this role if you have a strong mechanical background, solid residential M&E experience and want a permanent position with an established contractor delivering larger residential projects in London.
