A Civils Site Manager is required for a data centre expansion in Gloucester on a 4-week freelance contract, with a day rate of £325-£350. The project involves a restructure and extension of an existing data hall, aimed to be completed by mid-January 2025.
You will be on site full-time, collaborating with project managers, other site managers, and a QS to drive civils delivery during the final 4-week period.
Key scope includes:
- Creation of new white space and associated structural alterations
- Replacement of existing generators with new units
- New LV infrastructure (switchboards and distribution)
- New HV transformer and diversion of existing HV supply
Civils works include:
- Ground clearance of trees and shrubs for new mechanical plant (chillers)
- Groundworks and bases for new equipment
- Internal steel frames for new rooms
- Modifications to the existing building (forming openings, installing louvres, etc.)
- Raised access floor installation and mezzanine floor works
M&E works on the project cover typical DC systems: mechanical cooling, AC, fire protection, BMS, containment, PDUs, cabling, comms, fire systems, etc.
What you’ll be doing (Civils SM remit):
- Taking ownership of day-to-day civils delivery on site
- Coordinating direct and sub-contract labour, plant, materials and logistics
- Ensuring works are sequenced, safe and aligned with programme
- Maintaining accurate records, site diaries and compliance with company procedures
- Liaising with the wider project team (PMs, QS, M&E leads) to keep civils aligned with M&E and overall milestones
What you’ll need:
- Critical infrastructure background – e.g. pharma, hospitals, critical plant, high-spec industrial/commercial
- HNC, HND or Degree in Civil Engineering
- SMSTS
- Black CSCS
- First Aid
- Full UK driving licence
