A respected regional civil engineering & groundworks contractor is looking for an experienced Senior Site Engineer to support a busy programme of works across Newmarket and the wider Cambridgeshire area. This suits someone who can take ownership of engineering delivery, maintain tight QA control, and keep fast-moving civils packages running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting Out & Engineering
- Setting out for foundations, ducting, drainage, car parks, utilities, roads and general infrastructure
- Managing levels, grids, control points and as-built surveys
- Interpreting drawings, specifications and digital models
- Maintaining accurate engineering records across all work fronts
- Quality Assurance
- Completing ITPs, check sheets and QA documentation
- Ensuring works meet specification, tolerances and client requirements
- Supporting close-out of NCRs and maintaining quality records
- Monitoring workmanship and ensuring compliance with design standards
- Coordination & Leadership
- Working closely with Site & Project Managers on sequencing and planning
- Guiding junior engineers and supervising subcontractors
- Liaising with designers, commercial teams and client representatives
- Supporting technical problem-solving and offering engineering solutions
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensuring works are delivered in line with CDM and company procedures
- Contributing to RAMS and method statements
- Promoting safe working practices across site
About You
- Strong background in groundworks and civil engineering
- Experience across foundations, ducting, drainage and infrastructure
- Confident with TS, GPS, AutoCAD and modern surveying equipment
- Solid understanding of QA processes and documentation
- Able to work independently while supporting the wider site team
- Comfortable leading junior engineers and representing the contractor professionally
