We are seeking a dedicated Earthworks Material Manager to join a dynamic team and play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality results on-site.
About the Role
This role involves overseeing all aspects of earthworks and materials testing on a significant construction project. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, design teams, and stakeholders to ensure all works meet industry standards, project specifications, and operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating and supervising laboratory and field-testing activities for materials compliance.
- Preparing, reviewing, and issuing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Overseeing the approval process of all materials used on the project.
- Managing classification of excavated materials to align with project specifications.
- Supervising materials testing subcontractors.
- Identifying, investigating, and resolving non-conformance issues proactively.
- Managing test results and ensuring relevant documentation is distributed effectively.
- Producing quality documentation, including forms, checklists, and reports.
- Liaising with designers and client representatives regarding quality assurance.
- Testing excavated materials and maximizing reusability where possible.
- Working closely with engineering and management teams to optimize site productivity while maintaining quality standards.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Supporting timely completion of site works.
What We're Looking For
- Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in Civil, Structural, or Materials Engineering.
- Minimum of five years' experience in earthworks testing procedures.
- UKAS Soils Laboratory testing experience is beneficial.
- Excellent record-keeping and data management skills.
- Strong communication abilities to engage with technical and non-technical professionals.
- Solid knowledge of material classifications and industry specifications.
- Relevant qualifications, including CSCS certification.
- Strong understanding of HSQE regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage tight deadlines.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Full UK driving license required.
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight when required.
