Earthworks Material Manager Major UK Construction Project

Are you an experienced professional in earthworks and materials management looking for an exciting opportunity to contribute to a major UK construction project? We are seeking a dedicated Earthworks Material Manager to join a dynamic team and play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality results on-site.

About the Role

This role involves overseeing all aspects of earthworks and materials testing on a significant construction project. The successful candidate will work closely with project management, design teams, and stakeholders to ensure all works meet industry standards, project specifications, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinating and supervising laboratory and field-testing activities for materials compliance.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and issuing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Overseeing the approval process of all materials used on the project.
  • Managing classification of excavated materials to align with project specifications.
  • Supervising materials testing subcontractors.
  • Identifying, investigating, and resolving non-conformance issues proactively.
  • Managing test results and ensuring relevant documentation is distributed effectively.
  • Producing quality documentation, including forms, checklists, and reports.
  • Liaising with designers and client representatives regarding quality assurance.
  • Testing excavated materials and maximizing reusability where possible.
  • Working closely with engineering and management teams to optimize site productivity while maintaining quality standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Supporting timely completion of site works.

What Were Looking For

  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent experience) in Civil, Structural, or Materials Engineering.
  • Minimum of five years\’ experience in earthworks testing procedures.
  • UKAS Soils Laboratory testing experience is beneficial.
  • Excellent record-keeping and data management skills.
  • Strong communication abilities to engage with technical and non-technical professionals.
  • Solid knowledge of material classifications and industry specifications.
  • Relevant qualifications, including CSCS certification.
  • Strong understanding of HSQE regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Full UK driving license required.
  • Willingness to travel and stay overnight when required.
