An established UK aerospace manufacturer is looking to recruit an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with a background in composite materials to join its growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on technically challenging aerospace projects, helping to improve manufacturing processes, introduce new production methods and support the manufacture of high-quality composite components.
The Role
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and improving manufacturing processes across a range of composite products. Working closely with Design, Production and Quality teams, you will help drive efficiency, quality and continuous improvement throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, improve and maintain manufacturing processes for composite components.
- Support the introduction of new products into manufacture, ensuring efficient and repeatable production methods.
- Work with engineering and production teams to optimise composite manufacturing techniques, including lay-up, curing, machining and bonding.
- Design and improve manufacturing tooling, fixtures and production aids.
- Carry out process validation, trials and root cause investigations to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Drive continuous improvement projects focused on quality, productivity and waste reduction.
- Produce and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process sheets and engineering standards.
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with aerospace quality requirements and customer specifications.
- Provide technical support to production teams and assist with the implementation of best manufacturing practices.
- Keep up to date with developments in composite manufacturing technologies and identify opportunities for improvement.
What We’re Looking For
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace or Materials Engineering.
- Previous experience as a Manufacturing Engineer within a composites manufacturing environment.
- Good understanding of composite materials including carbon fibre and advanced composite structures.
- Knowledge of composite manufacturing techniques such as hand lay-up, autoclave curing, resin transfer moulding (RTM) or similar processes.
- Experience improving manufacturing processes and solving production-related engineering problems.
- Familiarity with CAD software would be advantageous.
- Understanding of aerospace quality standards such as AS9100 would be beneficial.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, production and quality functions.
- A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving abilities.
