We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in UK Engineering Design (MEP) and a strong foundation in Electrical Design. In this role, you will play a key part in driving innovative mechanical engineering solutions and contributing to exceptional building services design across diverse projects. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver complex projects while championing energy‑efficient, sustainable solutions that meet functional and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design process for MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems, ensuring compliance with UK building regulations, codes, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with electrical design teams on integrated solutions and interdisciplinary coordination for seamless project delivery.
- Design and optimise HVAC systems, pipework, public health systems, and other mechanical systems for various commercial, residential, and industrial projects.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior and intermediate engineers to enhance their technical skills and performance.
- Perform load calculations, system sizing, and specification development using industry‑standard software and tools.
- Conduct feasibility studies, energy modelling, and system impact assessments to drive sustainability in design.
- Carry out site inspections, manage quality assurance processes, and oversee on‑site project execution to ensure standards are met.
- Prepare detailed reports, models, and presentations for both internal stakeholders and external clients.
- Collaborate with architects, project managers, contractors, and stakeholders throughout project lifecycles to ensure alignment on project goals.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, sharing best practices to enhance design processes and technical standards.
Qualifications – Essential
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership.
- Extensive experience in mechanical engineering design, with a focus on MEP and electrical integration in the UK.
- Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE, BSRIA, and related engineering codes of practice.
- Proficient in using design software such as Revit MEP, AutoCAD, IES, Hevacomp, and other engineering analysis tools.
- Proven track record of successful project delivery across a range of sectors (e.g., commercial, residential, healthcare, education).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to find creative, pragmatic solutions to engineering challenges.
- Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage and inspire project teams.
Qualifications – Desirable
- Knowledge of sustainable design principles, including BREEAM, LEED, and WELL standards.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies such as digital twins and Building Information Modelling (BIM).
- Experience collaborating on projects with diverse, multicultural teams.
Day‑to‑Day Activities
