Associate Fire Engineer London or Bristol (along the M4 Corridor) | Hybrid | Competitive Salary + Benefits
A specialist Fire Engineering consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Associate Fire Engineer to its team covering London, Bristol and locations along the M4 Corridor.
This is a senior position combining hands‑on fire engineering, client management, mentoring and commercial responsibility, with the opportunity to work closely with the leadership team and contribute to the continued growth of the business.
The Role
- Prepare and oversee fire strategy reports, fee proposals and technical fire engineering documentation.
- Lead client meetings and undertake site surveys and inspections, clearly communicating fire strategy requirements to project teams.
- Review architectural drawings and identify fire safety risks, compliance issues and opportunities for engineered solutions.
- Undertake and review means of escape and evacuation assessments.
- Carry out or oversee computational evacuation modelling and fire engineering calculations.
- Contribute to smoke control, radiant heat and occupant evacuation analysis.
- Provide third‑party technical review and design verification.
- Apply UK fire safety legislation and key guidance including Approved Document B, BS 9999 and BS 9991.
- Mentor and support junior Fire Engineers with their technical and professional development.
- Contribute to senior management discussions, commercial management, workload planning, resourcing and wider strategic business objectives.
What We're Looking For
- Degree in Fire Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Significant Fire Safety Engineering consultancy experience, including experience operating at Senior Fire Engineer level or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of Approved Document B, BS 9999 and BS 9991.
- Proven ability to develop and implement fire engineered design solutions within the built environment.
- Experience producing fire strategies and advising clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach to risk.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- IFE membership at MIFireE or AIFireE level is required for the underlying vacancy.
- Leadership and mentoring capability.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of project resourcing.
