As our business continues to grow, we are looking to appoint an experienced and commercially astute Commercial Manager to join our expanding team. The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will take responsibility for the commercial performance of high-value civil engineering projects from pre‑construction through to final account. Working closely with operational and delivery teams, you will lead all aspects of cost management, procurement, contractual compliance, risk management, and commercial reporting. You will play a key role in driving profitability, managing client and subcontractor relationships, and ensuring strong commercial governance across projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of multiple civil engineering projects
- Prepare, manage, and review project budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting
- Oversee procurement and supply chain management processes
- Manage subcontractor accounts, interim valuations, and final accounts
- Assess, negotiate, and manage variations and compensation events
- Lead the preparation and management of Extension of Time and Loss & Expense claims
- Identify and mitigate commercial risks across projects
- Produce accurate monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports
- Ensure compliance with NEC and JCT contract requirements
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Provide commercial leadership and support to project and site teams
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
- Proven experience within the civil engineering or infrastructure sector
- Previous experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor or Commercial Manager level
- Strong understanding of NEC and JCT forms of contract
- Excellent commercial awareness and financial management skills
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership abilities
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficient IT, numerical, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider project team
- Flexible to travel to project sites when required
