The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Engineer to join a major, long-term civil engineering project in Helensburgh, Scotland. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a high-profile infrastructure programme involving a combination of complex land-based and marine civil engineering works. You’ll work within a technically challenging environment, taking ownership of engineering activities across your section of works while working closely with experienced construction professionals and a multidisciplinary project team. The Role
As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the successful engineering delivery of your section of the project, ensuring works are completed safely, accurately, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements. You will also play an important role in supporting, mentoring and developing engineers within the wider site team.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading day-to-day engineering activities and supporting the site engineering team
- Preparing and managing RAMS, ITPs, Temporary Works Briefs, TQs, RFIs, NCRs and Early Warnings
- Ensuring construction activities are delivered safely, accurately and to the required quality standards
- Carrying out buildability reviews and challenging designs where appropriate
- Managing engineering controls, surveys and setting-out activities
- Producing and maintaining accurate as-built information and project records
- Monitoring construction progress and providing engineering input into programme updates
- Supporting procurement, material forecasting and reconciliation
- Coordinating effectively with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams
- Ensuring construction drawings and technical information are available, reviewed and understood ahead of works
- Maintaining accurate site records, including diaries, photographs and marked-up drawings
- Supporting the delivery of project quality, health & safety and environmental standards
- Mentoring and developing engineers within the team
- Taking responsibility for smaller or lower-complexity work packages when required
- Identifying engineering issues and driving practical solutions through to completion
About You
- 3–5+ years’ relevant civil engineering experience
- A Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering
- Previous experience working on civil engineering or major construction projects
- A strong understanding of RAMS, ITPs, quality systems and safe systems of work
- Experience managing engineering activities and supporting site-based construction teams
- The confidence to challenge designs, identify technical issues and implement effective solutions
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, engineers and site operatives
- Good IT skills, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- A full UK driving licence
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- A proactive approach and the ability to take ownership of engineering activities
Security Clearance – Essential
Due to the sensitive nature of the project, applicants must hold a British passport and be eligible to obtain the required level of UK Security Clearance. Existing Full Security Clearance is highly desirable. Candidates will also be required to complete the relevant security, drugs and alcohol screening as part of the recruitment process.
