Barnes Roffe Recruitment have partnered with a prestigious Client who are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Stock Controller to join their team in East London. This is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of inventory across a dynamic and fast-paced precious metals environment. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate stock accounting, operational efficiency, and robust reconciliation processes across the business.
The Role
As Stock Controller, you will take ownership of all goods moving through the business, ensuring accurate tracking, reconciliation, and reporting of inventory. You will maintain a live stock system, manage daily metal equilibrium, and work closely with commercial and trading teams to support hedging and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all goods inwards, goods outwards, and internal stock movements
- Maintain accurate, real-time accounting records of all inventory
- Monitor daily metal equilibrium and liaise with the commercial team regarding day-end hedging
- Perform regular reconciliations between physical stock and accounting records
- Coordinate quarterly inventory audits and investigate discrepancies
- Design and implement reconciliation processes between Sage, internal systems, and physical stock
- Work closely with the sales desk to verify day-end reconciliations and ensure appropriate hedging
- Control and track stock movements across multiple business areas including storage, manufacturing, consignment, and external partners
- Manage dispatch of large manufacturing orders and reconcile against goods received and customer orders
- Oversee packing and dispatch of precious metals sales
- Account for metal as it changes form across business processes
- Monitor and forecast stock levels to meet manufacturing and sales requirements
- Oversee goods inwards processes including scrap and buy-back activities
- Manage internal and external refining processes, ensuring accurate reconciliation of weights and outputs
- Maintain records of stock sold but not yet dispatched
- Identify and implement improvements in stock control and inventory systems
- Lead stock take procedures and prepare stock valuation reports
- Reconcile scrap and refined product counts, ensuring accuracy and no duplication
- Investigate discrepancies between physical counts and system records
- Reconcile metal position movements against trading desk hedging activity
- Maintain and verify scrap listings and year-end counts
- Collaborate with trading and finance teams on stock valuation and reporting
About You
- Proven experience in stock control, inventory management, or a similar role
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail
- Experience working with accounting systems (Sage preferred)
- Ability to manage complex stock movements across multiple locations
- Excellent communication skills and ability to liaise across departments
- Proactive mindset with a focus on process improvement and efficiency
