The Defence Diving Technician is responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and certification of military underwater breathing apparatus in support of the Defence Diving Product Line. The role exists to ensure that all equipment is maintained in accordance with approved standards, technical procedures, and regulatory requirements, enabling safe and reliable operational use by Defence diving personnel.
Embedded within the Defence Diving Product Line team in JFD’s Defence Division, the Technician plays a critical role in delivering assured equipment availability against operational demand. Working closely with Engineers, product managers, and operational stakeholders, the role supports the planning and execution of servicing activities, ensuring work is completed on time, to specification, and in line with contractual and safety obligations. This is a technically accountable role contributing directly to the delivery of high value, safety critical capability.
The Defence Diving Technician is a key member of the team, entrusted with maintaining equipment readiness, identifying emerging technical issues, and supporting continuous improvement across servicing and support activities for strategically important defence programmes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- To carry out repair, recalibration and testing work in compliance with work order instructions and in accordance with requisite quality system standards.
- To conduct and record service and repair work on MoD contracts as required.
- To ensure compliance with all company Safety and Quality Assurance policies, processes and procedures to ensure that people and equipment are kept safe.
You will need excellent communication skills, with a focus on safety and a collaborative mindset along with a commitment to delivery.
Key skills, knowledge and experience:- The ability to apply recognised mechanical repair instructions to complete equipment maintenance.
- A working knowledge of MoD documentation, which includes but is not limited to BR’s & Defect reporting.
- Ideally, you will also have a recognised technical maintenance qualification, with proven mechanical maintenance aptitude.
The role is to be based at JFD Portsmouth, but also to include trips to other MoD sites as directed by the ISS Manager. Some foreign travel may be required on an infrequent basis to support equipment training and demonstrations. Therefore a flexible working approach is required.
This is a highly specialised role with key links to the defence market and therefore you must be able to pass the appropriate security clearance to operate effectively.
