As a Modelling and Simulation Engineer, you will apply cutting‑edge tools to tackle complex challenges in defence, energy, and maritime transport, shaping smarter designs, predicting real‑world performance, accelerating testing, and uncovering insights that drive critical decision‑making.

This global, groupwide role spans all three James Fisher and Sons divisions: Defence, Energy, and Maritime Transport, supporting our full portfolio of products and services as part of our growing Modelling & Simulation team. It can be based in either Inchinnan or Aberdeen.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop models and run simulations across fluids, thermals, acoustics, structures, electrical systems, control systems, and other dynamic mechanical systems.
- Work closely with cross‑functional teams to translate project requirements into effective, timely simulation solutions.
- Validate and test simulation models to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Analyse results and deliver clear, actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Stay current with the latest simulation technologies, proactively exploring and implementing new methods.
- Create and maintain clear documentation for models, tools, and processes.
- Present technical findings and recommendations confidently, both verbally and in writing.
What we’re looking for:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electromechanical, Aeromechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards Chartership is desirable.
- Hands-on experience coding and using tools like MATLAB, Simulink and Python to model real-world systems is essential.
- Familiar with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for solving practical engineering challenges is essential.
- Proven ability to validate simulation outputs against real-world data is essential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts clearly is essential.
- Open to learning new technologies, trying new approaches, and embracing change.
- Skilled at managing multiple projects, prioritising effectively, and meeting deadlines.
- Energetic, proactive, and confident in taking ownership of complex problems and driving them to resolution.
