The Role:
As James Fisher Renewables continues to grow its capabilities and services, we are looking for an experienced Engineer to lead the development of innovative products and technologies across our portfolio, including Asset Management, High Voltage Services, and Blades & Cables. This role is central to shaping our product strategy, with a strong focus on cables and blades, and ensuring new product development aligns with our strategic vision and group-led processes. You will provide technical expertise, engage with specialist suppliers, and support the wider Product Development team to deliver solutions in a dynamic 24/7 service environment. The position involves advancing high-voltage cable monitoring, blade repair technologies, and SCADA Control Room development, while navigating the challenges of delivering on green energy commitments in a rapidly evolving industry. This will be a home based role but the candidate should be able to attend the office on occasion in Bamber Bridge when required.
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead engineering input for new HV products and services from concept to deployment.
- Support all product lines through NPD governance checkpoints and provide technical expertise to Product Line Managers.
- Prepare and present technical documentation to stakeholders and explore innovations from suppliers, partners, and competitors.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Project Management, Marketing, Operations, Commercial) to deliver innovative solutions and identify cross-product opportunities within James Fisher.
- Provide senior engineering support for tenders and live projects, ensuring technical compliance and quality.
- Review and approve technical documentation, including designs, procedures, and test results.
- Ensure HV activities comply with legislation, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Drive continuous improvement through lessons learned, audits, and technical reviews.
- Build strong relationships with OEMs, suppliers, clients, and regulatory bodies to maintain JFR’s reputation.
- Represent JFR at industry forums, technical committees, and client meetings.
What we’re looking for:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in high-voltage systems (33kV–400kV), ideally within offshore wind, transmission, or similar high-risk environments.
- Proven track record in leading engineering teams and delivering complex technical projects, ideally in an R&D or Product Development environment.
- Strong understanding of HV safety rules, authorisation processes, and operational best practices.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (e.g., IET, IEEE).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to have:
- Experience working with HV cable OEMs and turbine manufacturers.
- Familiarity with UK transmission operator environments or other regulated sectors.
- IOSH / NEBOSH certification or equivalent HSE training.
