Decarbonisation Manager
Permanent position - Hybrid working
London (Location can be flexible)
The Role
The Decarbonisation Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining and coordinating the Division's decarbonisation pathway to achieve its greenhouse gas reduction targets.
The role provides oversight of the Division’s greenhouse gas inventory, emissions data and carbon performance insights, working with relevant teams to ensure robust reporting and effective monitoring of progress.
Working collaboratively across Engineering & Innovation, Operations, Finance and other business functions, the postholder will coordinate carbon reduction initiatives, develop business cases for decarbonisation opportunities and support the business in responding to evolving maritime decarbonisation regulations.
Key Duties and responsibilities
- Develop and implement a sustainability strategy, goals and KPIs aligned with the Group’s overall strategy, with a focus on emissions reduction and energy efficiency
- Develop and maintain the Division's decarbonisation pathway to deliver greenhouse gas reduction targets
- Drive and deliver sustainability projects, including continuous improvement of operations and trialling innovative technologies
- Work with Group and Division stakeholders to monitor for changes in policy and regulation relating to Sustainability and ESG matters, interpret changes in the external sustainability environment to mitigate risk and ensure compliance
- Advocate for sustainability within the division by influencing decision - making at all levels to integrate sustainability into business practices
- Prepare regular sustainability updates to report to Group and external parties in relation to the Divisional achievements, challenges and impacts.
- Monitor and analyse carbon performance against decarbonisation targets and identify improvement opportunities
- Develop business cases for decarbonisation initiatives and support investment decisions
- Coordinate delivery of decarbonisation and energy efficiency initiatives and monitor progress, risks and outcomes
- Support development of the fuel transition strategy, including alternative fuels, Fuel EU compliance and Well-to-Wake carbon accounting
- Provide technical guidance on maritime decarbonisation regulations and monitor legislative developments
- Build effective partnerships across the Division and with Group Sustainability to embed decarbonisation into business planning and operations
- Prepare insights, reports and recommendations to support decision-making and monitor progress against decarbonisation objectives
- Combining own depth of knowledge with broader Group’s subject matter experts and teams to provide a superior output through collaborative thinking.
- Educate and train employees on sustainability practices, to inspire and catalise change.
- Support the development and delivery of maritime decarbonisation training
What we're looking for
You will need the ability to analyse technical, operational and emissions data, to identify improvement opportunities and monitor performance.
An understanding of vessel energy efficiency, alternative fuels and decarbonisation technologies.
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Strong planning, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
Key skills, knowledge and experience
- Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related discipline.
- Knowledge of maritime decarbonisation regulations, including SEEMP, CII, EU ETS, UK ETS and Fuel EU Maritime.
- Knowledge of carbon accounting methodologies and greenhouse gas reporting frameworks (e. g. GHG Protocol) preferred.
- Experience with vessel performance monitoring systems is preferred.
- Experience managing cross-functional projects and delivering agreed outcomes.
- Experience preparing business cases, reports and presentations.
- Experience of the Maritime Transport and/or Maritime sector.
