The Assistant Mechanical Technician role is a hands-on support position within the workshop, assisting experienced mechanical technicians with the assembly, manufacture, inspection, testing, and servicing of JFD's commercial and military products. This role is suited to someone developing their mechanical skills, with day-to-day guidance provided by senior technicians and team leaders while building confidence in workshop processes, specialist equipment, and quality procedures.
What you'll be doing:
- Support the assembly of mechanical products and equipment to a high standard, following work instructions, drawings, and quality requirements under guidance.
- Assist experienced technicians with testing, inspections, and functional checks to help ensure products meet performance and customer specifications.
- Help complete assembly, inspection, and test documentation accurately, maintaining clear records for each job.
- Use hand tools, small power tools, and workshop equipment safely while supporting manufacturing, servicing, and maintenance activities.
- Contribute to a clean, organised, and safe working environment in line with Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) standards.
What we're looking for:
- National 4/5 qualifications (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Design & Manufacture, Science, or related subjects.
- Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, or workshop environment is desirable.
- Confidence using hand tools and small power tools safely and effectively.
- A strong practical aptitude with the ability to follow technical instructions, drawings, and procedures.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
