About The Role
To provide engineering design solutions and through life engineering support to the JFD product range. Workload can vary from new product design to meet client or internal specifications through to supporting an existing client’s request to upgrade or change equipment in the field.
Including control systems design using PLC (programmable logic controllers), and also using PLC industrial automation network interfaces (Profibus, CANbus, Ethernet etc).
Your Key Responsibilities Will Also Include

  • Control systems design using PLC (programmable logic controllers).
  • Provide engineering design input to new systems and products and provide support to the existing product range by assessing technical queries.
  • Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, supply chain and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
  • Creation of part numbers and bill of materials and sourcing suitable components and materials when required.
  • Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports and checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget and adhere to engineering and company standards and processes (compliance to internal and external standards and regulations).
  • Accountability and responsibility as the discipline technical approver of drawings and documentation generated within the JFD engineering team.
  • Where applicable, responsible for promoting engagement to achieve a resilient diverse high performing team.
  • Where applicable, the line management of a small team on performance, development, allocation/delegation of work and compliance to internal and external standard & regulations and develop and mentor team through the use of a competence framework and training, development plans and performance appraisals.

Skills & Experience
  • Proven electrical and electronics design skills.
  • Skilled in generating design calculations.
  • Experience programming with Structured Text (ST) and other IEC 61131-3 programming languages in CODESYS platform.
  • Competent in the use of engineering design software tools / CAD packages.
  • Knowledge of design standards.
  • Experience of control systems design using PLC (programmable logic controllers), experience with PLC industrial automation network interfaces (Profibus, CANbus, Ethernet etc).
  • Knowledge of IEC 61508 applied to programmable systems in critical applications.
  • Previous product design experience would be advantageous, particularly DC systems.
  • Selection of cables, connectors, and penetrators.
  • Design and commissioning of HV and LV electrical systems and provide associated calculations.
  • Design of power distribution systems.
  • Specification, selection, and management of traction battery systems up to capacity 150 kWh.
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems design for EMC compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in an electrical engineer or product engineer role.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages.
  • Electrical and Electronics engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Familiar with working to marine/defence standards and Classification Society rules (LR, DNV, DEFSTAN etc.)
This role is to be based in Inchinnan, Glasgow however, some travel will be required as projects dictate.
