As a Mechanical Engineer, you will deliver innovative engineering design solutions and provide through-life support for the JFD product range. This dynamic role involves working on new product development to meet client or internal specifications, as well as supporting existing clients with upgrades and modifications to equipment in the field. You will take ownership of tasks, ensuring high-quality outputs within tight deadlines, while adapting to changing scopes and client demands. Success in this role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and proven experience in performing engineering calculations to validate designs and ensure compliance with technical standards. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment is essential.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assess technical queries and provide engineering design input into new products and support existing product range.
  • Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
  • Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creation of part numbers and bill of materials.
  • Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification, and reports.
  • Checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation and adherence to company standards and processes and compliance to internal and external standards & regulations.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget.
  • Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as and when required.
  • Accountability and responsibility as technical checker of drawings and documentation generated in support of the mechanical engineer role.

What We’re Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Skilled in generating design calculations.
  • Be able to work with DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
  • Experience performing FEA structural analysis using appropriate software (ANSYS).
  • Manufacture of prototype components and take design from concept to validation.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
  • Good knowledge of gas and fluid systems.
  • Knowledge of design standards and industry guidelines such as IMCA.
  • Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV).
  • Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages.

Nice To Have

  • Product design experience would be advantageous.
  • Previous diving equipment design experience would be advantageous.
  • Any relevant diving qualifications would be advantageous.
