About the Role
Security Officer - Part-time permanent position (24 hours per week) in Plymouth, Cattedown Wharves.
The Role: Providing first line security to the Port/Tanker berth outside working hours to Cattedown Wharves Limited (Part of the James Fisher Group).
This role covers dayshift 6am - 6pm, Saturday, Sunday and all Bank Holidays (including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day).
The role will provide a physical presence to deter intruders and to liaise with Pilots/Agents to coordinate mooring and let go crews for shipping to the wharf.
Key Duties and responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Hand over between oncoming/outgoing duty person and update any information, messages or instructions.
- Check log sheets for people still on site.
- Check shipping book for vessels alongside.
- Ask for shipping movements and check the board.
- After all staff have left, divert the telephone, conduct a walkabout, ensure all doors are locked/closed, and store lights are off; ensure gates and fuel tanks are padlocked.
- Ensure office lights are off and all windows and doors in the office are locked; secure gates as required.
- Never leave the security office area unless all gates and doors are locked.
- Perform regular walk-arounds/inspections; vary times but no more than 2 hours between inspections.
- Answer telephone after the quay operatives cease work.
- Monitor emails and update the shipping board accordingly.
- Always carry a mobile phone when away from the main gate.
- Pass on shipping information as required to agents/staff.
- Moor and let-go vessels as required or instructed.
- Book in personnel and vehicles on and off the wharf areas; record on log sheets.
- Conduct searching of crew and/or visitors for vessels performing international voyages using the correct Df T search forms; maintain accurate records of these searches.
- Check TV monitors regularly and report any incidents.
- Unlock doors and gates at the required times.
- Monitor movement of personnel and record on log sheets.
- Ensure the shipping vessel book and security book are in the Wharf Manager's office at the end of the shift.
- Check lifesaving equipment and fire extinguishers as per the log sheet; return completed log sheet to the compliance office.
- Liaise with IFL security personnel on any issue reported concerning the workshop.
- Complete the security logbook to include any issues or defects noticed.
- Check the perimeter fencing and log in the logbook, noting any concerns.
- Keep working areas clean and tidy.
Qualifications, skills and experience
- Previous security knowledge and experience of working in a busy environment; full training will be provided.
- Previous customer service experience with good communication skills and computer literacy.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours and cover holidays and ad hoc days.
