The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity within the JFD Engineering Team for a Mechanical Engineer to join the team working on international defence projects. The successful candidate will provide engineering design solutions and through life engineering support to the JFD product range. You will get the opportunity to work on new product design to meet client or internal specifications through to supporting an existing client’s request to upgrade or change equipment in the field.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assess technical queries and provide engineering design input to new products and support existing product range.
  • Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, procurement, and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
  • Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and creation of part numbers and bill of materials.
  • Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports.
  • Checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation and adherence to company standards and processes and compliance to internal and external standards & regulations.
  • Ensuring engineering solutions are provided on time and on budget.
  • Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as and when required.
  • Accountability and responsibility as technical checker of drawings and documentation generated in support of the mechanical engineer role.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Skilled in generating design calculations.
  • Be able to work with DFA (Design for Assembly) and DFM (Design for Manufacturing).
  • Experience performing FEA structural analysis using appropriate software (ANSYS).
  • Manufacture of prototype components and take design from concept to validation.
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing techniques.
  • Good knowledge of gas and fluid systems.
  • Knowledge of design standards and industry guidelines such as IMCA.
  • Experience working to marine, defence standards and class society rules (mainly LR and DNV).
  • Product design experience would be advantageous.
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storage of engineering packages.
  • Previous diving equipment design experience and/or diving qualifications would be advantageous.
