About the Role

This is more than just a job, it's an opportunity to build a rewarding HR career while supporting a business that delivers critical work within the Defence sector. As part of our Defence Division, you'll gain hands‑on experience across the full spectrum of HR, working alongside experienced HR Business Partners who are committed to helping you grow. From advising managers on employee relations matters and supporting talent development, to contributing to succession planning, workforce planning and training initiatives, no two days will be the same. This role is ideal for someone who has a solid HR foundation and is ready to move beyond administration into a true advisory position. You'll be encouraged to develop your confidence, broaden your HR expertise, and become a trusted partner to managers and employees alike.

What you'll be doing

  • Provide first‑line HR advice and guidance to managers and employees on policies, procedures, and best practice, escalating complex matters where required.
  • Support the delivery and monitoring of training, development, and competency programmes to meet business and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with the implementation and communication of HR initiatives, policies, and organisational change projects.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to aid the achievement of business objectives.
  • Support managers with routine employee relations matters, including absence, performance, conduct, and probation, ensuring accurate documentation and policy compliance.
  • Maintain and update Defence organisational structure charts.
  • Produce and analyse HR metrics and reports, including turnover, absence, stability, and exit interview data.
  • Partner with and shadow HR Business Partners on projects and initiatives to develop HR knowledge and advisory capability.

What we're looking for

  • Demonstrates discretion, professionalism, and sound judgement when handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Good understanding of employment law principles and HR best practice.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret HR data, identifying trends and providing meaningful insights.
  • Previous experience in an HR role and/or working towards or holding a relevant HR qualification (e.g. CIPD, HNC).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to quickly learn and utilise HR systems and technology.
