About the role:
The Tetney Monobuoy serves the Tetney Oil Terminal which is the storage and pumping facility for the Humber Oil Refinery at South Killingholme.
The Tetney Monobuoy is situated approximately 2 miles south of Spurn Head and is an open roadstead at the entrance to the River Humber on the East Coast of England.
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the management and day to day running of the Technical Department onboard the Trent Fisher, being fully observant of the company operating procedures and maintaining the Safety Management System on board the vessel, with due regard to the protection of the marine environment.
Principle Accountabilities:
- Ensure compliance and correct usage of safety management system by all members of the engine department.
- Lead and maintain safety standards during engine/technical works, working with other departments as instructed by the company.
- Be responsible for toolbox talks prior to commencement of any engine room/technical activities.
- Ensuring that personnel engaged in a work activity within the engine room / technical space have the necessary skill and that there are sufficient personnel for the assigned task.
- Ensuring that the correct equipment and system of work is in use and that the place of work is safe.
- Ensuring that the safety equipment is available and properly used and that the conditions of any relevant Permit to Work are adhered to.
- Take the lead role in creating risk assessments for the technical department for the engine room, and technical activities and help ensure the findings are communicated to all personnel associated with the task and identified controls are complied with.
- Lead and maintain awareness of sub-contractor activities and procedures within the engine room, including emergency procedures, interfaces and associated risks.
The Chief Engineer shall be:
- In charge of vessel, engine room and technical maintenance on board in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule and budget.
- Responsible for on-board maintenance and repair of marine plant and equipment.
- Supervision of personnel and visitors to the engineering function for work or maintenance.
- Responsibility for signing off on maintenance work completed.
- Preparation of maintenance and operational reports as required.
- Assisting other engineers as required.
- Ensuring day to day compliance with relevant environmental regulations.
- Responsible for correct use and maintenance of all machinery, safety and environment protection equipment.
- Ensuring the correct keeping of engine logbook and oil record book
- Ensuring compliance with the local, regional, national and international legislation.
- Responsible for all bunker and internal oil transfers according to bunkering of fuel and oils and internal transfer of bunkers or oil products.
*Any other tasks as requested by the Senior Ship Manager or their deputy associated with technical tasks and functions.
Qualifications and Experience:
- COC Chief Engineer STCW III/2
- Valid certificate of medical fitness for seafarers, such as the ENG1 or equivalent.
- Sea Survival/Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Code-Table A-VI/1-1)
- Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats (CPSC) (STCW Code-Table A-VI/2-1)
- Advanced Fire Fighting Certificate (STCW Code-Table A-VI/1-2)
- Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (STCW Code-Table A-VI/1-4)
- Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PSDS) Certificate
- Security Awareness training
- First Aid Medical Care On-board Certification
Normal place of work is the Trent Fisher which supports the Tetney Monobuoy.
The Tetney Monobuoy is the client’s main crude oil import facility. It consists of a SPM system located at the mouth of the Humber Estuary in a water depth of approximately 20 meters and some 5 miles distant from the shore terminal.
The system is a Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (“CALM”) buoy type with ‘Lazy S’ configuration with 20” subsea hoses. It is an import only facility and has approximately 110 shipping movements a year with a throughput in the region of 9 million cubic meters of crude oil.
