Lead Software Developer – AI

Contract | £900 per day | Outside IR35

Location: Gatwick – Hybrid (2 days per week on-site)

Start: January | 6 months with possibility of extension

Our client, a well-known brand in the travel and lifestyle sector, is looking for an experienced Lead Software Developer – AI to help drive the development of their next generation of AI-powered digital products.

In this role, you will take ownership of AI projects from concept through to delivery, building scalable, secure solutions while guiding the wider engineering team. You will work hands-on with Python and JavaScript, developing prototypes and solutions using OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar Generative AI platforms.

You will collaborate closely with product and data teams to integrate AI features into customer-facing experiences, provide technical leadership, and set coding standards across the team. The role also offers the opportunity to influence architecture, mentor other engineers, and contribute to the overall AI strategy.

Key Requirements

• Strong experience in Python development, with JavaScript skills
• Hands-on experience with Generative AI platforms (OpenAI, Anthropic, Databricks, etc.)
• Experience leading code reviews, setting standards, and guiding solution architecture
• Track record of working in travel or retail sectors
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, able to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Must be able to work2 days per week in the office
