Overview
This is a Lead System Administrator role responsible for owning day-to-day IT operations and leading a small team to ensure systems are secure, reliable, and high-performing. The role combines technical expertise with leadership to shape how IT services are delivered across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Lead & mentor a team of System Administrators – guiding their growth, managing workloads, and acting as the go-to for escalations.
- Own IT operations – ensure systems are secure, reliable, and high-performing every day.
- Roll up your sleeves – handle 2nd/3rd-line support and hands-on configuration across Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, Windows 11, iOS, and AWS.
- Drive improvement – automate processes, document smarter, and champion service quality.
- Collaborate on projects such as disaster recovery testing, client onboarding, migrations, and new tooling.
- Be a trusted partner to the Head of IT & Cyber Security – acting as their right hand for operational delivery.
Qualifications
- 3+ years in IT support/systems admin, ideally in a mid-sized business.
- Expertise with Microsoft 365, Azure AD, and Windows endpoint management.
- Solid hands-on AWS experience (EC2, S3, IAM, networking, backups).
- Experience leading or mentoring others.
- A knack for balancing queues, priorities, and deadlines without dropping the ball.
- Great communication skills – with both end users and technical colleagues.
- Scripting/automation skills (PowerShell or similar).
- Familiarity with ITIL, ISO 27001, or Cyber Essentials.
Bonus points if you have:
- Exposure to cybersecurity tools (Cybereason, Rapid7, 1Password).
- Experience with Freshdesk/Freshservice.
- A track record supporting audits or compliance activities.
