We are currently partnering with a Legal Firm working on behalf of local authorities based in East Midlands, who are recruiting for a Principal SEN Lawyer to join their growing team on a permanent or locum basis. This is a full-time position with a salary band of £61,000 to £76,000 (subject to experience) and locum role is negotiable on experience.
Duties:
- Lead a team of lawyers providing a range of public sector clients with a professional and innovative legal service predominantly regarding Special Educational Needs and education matters.
- Act as a legal advisor to client organisations to ensure compliance with statutory duties and obligations and to protect the best interests of the client organisations.
- Provide supervision and manage the work of the team to ensure that professional guidance is given, that expertise is employed and work is allocated appropriately within the team.
- Provide overall management of the team's complex and politically sensitive caseload to ensure the provision of high quality, well researched and comprehensive legal advice.
Skills and Experience required:
- Experience advising on, preparing and presenting SEN and educational law matters.
- Demonstrated understanding of local government legal frameworks, including civil and criminal cases.
- Experience of advocacy in courts and tribunals.
