We are currently working in partnership with a public sector organisation looking to appoint an experienced People Partner on a 12-month FTC. This will be a full-time position based in Manchester, with hybrid working (2/3 days home working) and a salary of £55,000 to £65,000 per annum.
The ideal candidate will bring strong experience across project work, performance and project management, along with excellent capability in working with trade unions while maintaining strategic oversight and analytical insight.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Partnering with leaders across all business units to support people strategy and day‑to‑day HR needs
- Building strong industrial relations, working collaboratively with trade union representatives to maintain constructive dialogue, resolve issues, and support organisational change
- Leading performance management activity and coaching managers to drive a high‑performance culture
- Delivering organisation‑wide performance projects and strengthening capability frameworks
- Advising managers on employee relations, engagement, wellbeing, and workforce planning
- Using people data and insights to identify trends and influence decision‑making
- Supporting talent development, succession planning, and capability growth across teams
- Managing generalist HR activity including onboarding, absence, casework, and employee experience
- Leading complex ER cases, coaching senior leaders, and ensuring fair, consistent outcomes across the organisation
Experience required:
- Extensive HR experience with strong exposure to strategic business partnering in a large or complex organisation
- Confident working autonomously and influencing senior leaders with evidence‑based insight
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills across all levels
- Ability to analyse complex people data, identify trends, and develop strategic, actionable solutions
- Proven track record of managing complex employee relations matters and engaging with trade unions
- Experience leading workforce planning and supporting organisational change
- Deep knowledge of employment law, HR policy, and best‑practice people management
- CIPD Chartered Membership (or equivalent experience)
- Proactive, forward‑thinking approach with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups
