We are currently partnering with a Local Authority based in Oxfordshire, who are recruiting for an Adult Social Care Lawyer to join their growing team on a locum contract, minimum 3 months. This is a full-time position with a rate of up to Β£60/hour (umbrella) and the start date is subject to notice. Our clients are considering applicants on a fully remote basis.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Carrying a varied caseload and advising officers and elected members on statutory duties and powers under legislation such as the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and related regulations and guidance.
- Conducting/managing legal proceedings and representing the Local Authority in the Court of Protection, High Court, and other relevant forums, including handling safeguarding, deprivation of liberty, and welfare cases.
- Preparing and scrutinising legal documents such as court applications, witness statements, care plans, policies, and agreements to ensure legal compliance and robustness.
- Supporting lawful and defensible decision-making by ensuring compliance with human rights, public law principles, and equality duties, and advising on challenges, complaints, and judicial review risks.
Requirements:
- Experience working within Local Government.
- Current practicing certificate.
