We are currently working in partnership with a local authority in Gloucestershire, who are looking for a Small Works Surveyor. The client is open to both temporary and permanent options. The hourly rate for the role is up to £30.00 on an umbrella basis, and on a permanent basis the salary is up to £48,053.

This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of small-scale projects and individual property refurbishments, ensuring works are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and to a high standard, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Carrying out property inspections and diagnosing defects, including major voids, housing disrepair cases, and providing professional advice on damp, mould and condensation issues
  • Managing refurbishment, improvement, and maintenance projects typically up to £35k
  • Preparing scopes of work, obtaining quotes, and ensuring compliance with procurement and building regulations
  • Instructing and managing contractors, monitoring quality, budgets, timescales, and KPIs
  • Undertaking site inspections, signing off completed works, and maintaining accurate asset records
  • Ensuring health & safety and statutory compliance, including acting as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations where required
  • Liaising with customers and stakeholders to ensure clear communication and positive outcomes

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Building Surveying, or actively working towards this qualification
  • Experience in building surveying, project management, or a closely related role
  • Proven experience delivering or supporting small works and refurbishment projects

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Strong technical knowledge of building construction and compliance requirements
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional communication skills and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and residents

Working hours: 35 hours per week Monday - Friday, Flexible Start/Finish Times
