Job Description
We are currently partnering with a Local Authority in the Midlands, who are recruiting for a Deputy Head of Legal Services to join their growing team on a four month (minimum) locum basis.
This is a fully remote, full-time position with a rate of circa up £90 p/h (umbrella) and the start date is subject to notice.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Managing the Property and Contract legal teams and ensuring a high level of legal support from those teams to and across the Council
- Directly line managing a team of 3 direct reports (2 Principal Solicitors and an Information Manager) with 8 staff reporting into them
- Providing direct support to a specialist locum dealing with the Council’s waste contract agreement
- Working with the Monitoring Officer to ensure excellent governance arrangements are in place, continuously monitoring governance, assisting with preparation of the annual governance statement and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Ensuring that effective legal advice, within the areas of responsibility, is available to the Council, the Cabinet, committees, sub-committees, panels and working groups
Experience required:
- Experience required within Local Government
- Experience managing legal professionals
