James Adams have partnered with a leading global fintech brand to recruit a Marketing Automation Director. Based in London, this senior role will initially support operations in the UK with a clear roadmap for expansion across Europe. This is a permanent role working 5 days onsite in Central London. You will operate at Executive Director level, leading multi market transformation initiatives that accelerate speed to market, modernise workflows, and embed automation and AI-driven processes while strengthening governance and controls. The role involves cross functional leadership, budget accountability, and oversight of both internal teams and external partners. Initial team setup includes at least one Product Manager, with additional resources drawn from the wider marketing organisation and consulting partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation operating model and roadmap: Define and implement a scalable marketing automation framework and standards. Prioritise high impact initiatives without compromising control or compliance requirements.
- Governance and controls: Establish control gates in partnership with Compliance, Legal, Risk, Data Privacy, and Audit teams. Embed testing and monitoring to ensure processes are auditable and regulatory compliant.
- AI and intelligent automation enablement: Design AI-driven agent roles across marketing workflows, including campaign intake, compliance prechecks, content quality assurance, and tagging/taxonomy. Ensure decision rights, explainability, escalation paths, and monitoring frameworks are clearly defined. Define prompt/policy management, versioning, traceability, fallbacks, and performance metrics for AI-enabled processes.
- Programme delivery and leadership: Lead internal pods and consulting teams to execute transformation initiatives. Set OKRs, manage budgets, risks, dependencies, and drive adoption through training and playbooks.
- Vendor and partner management: Oversee consultancies and external partners, ensuring methods and tools comply with enterprise standards. Validate and approve new automation solutions prior to implementation.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years’ experience in marketing operations or automation within regulated industries.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience at Director or Executive Director level leading large scale change.
- Proven track record of reducing cycle times while strengthening governance.
- Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration, rules engines, LLM/agentic patterns, and human-in-the-loop automation.
- Demonstrated success partnering with Compliance, Legal, Risk, and Audit to deliver audit-ready processes.
