Are you an experienced Substation Design Engineer ready to take the lead on major HV infrastructure projects up to 400kV? We are working with a fast-growing engineering business delivering high-profile grid connection and substation projects across the UK renewable energy, power and utilities sectors. Due to continued expansion, they are looking to appoint a Lead Substation Design Engineer to drive technical delivery and support the growth of the engineering function. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on technical engineering with team leadership, client engagement and project oversight within a business where your input is genuinely recognised and rewarded.
The Role
As Lead Substation Design Engineer, you will oversee the FEED and detailed design delivery of HV substation and grid connection projects up to 400kV. You will provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and ensure designs are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance.
Projects will include:
- AIS and GIS substations
- Grid connection infrastructure
- Renewable energy and power transmission projects
- HV electrical infrastructure up to 400kV
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of FEED and detailed design projects
- Oversee and mentor engineering and design teams
- Produce and review substation layouts, calculations and technical documentation
- Lead earthing design and associated studies
- Ensure compliance with National Grid and DNO standards
- Coordinate with clients, suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Support project planning, technical governance and design reviews
- Drive engineering best practice and continuous improvement
Requirements
- Proven experience in HV substation design projects up to 400kV
- Strong background in AIS/GIS substations and grid connections
- Experience leading engineering/design teams
- Strong understanding of National Grid and DNO requirements
- Proficiency with 2D/3D CAD design tools
- Experience with simulation/modelling software would be advantageous
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
