A growing and highly regarded project and programme consultancy is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to support the delivery of complex infrastructure programmes across the Utilities, Rail and wider Infrastructure sectors. This is a client-facing contract role, embedded within project and programme teams, providing expert commercial leadership across pre- and post-contract stages, procurement, and contract management.
The Role
As Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of commercial management activities across your designated project portfolio. You will use your experience of supplier relationships, contract administration and commercial governance to drive efficiencies, manage risk and ensure robust cost control. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, supporting strategic decision-making while ensuring compliance with contractual and governance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, monitor and report on all commercial aspects of projects in line with corporate governance and cost reporting requirements
- Lead commercial review, valuation and approval of high-value / high-risk contractor applications
- Provide expert advice on change control, scope changes and risk mitigation
- Prepare and process payment applications and invoices, attend valuation meetings and manage commercial correspondence and contractual notices
- Lead final account settlements and project close-out activities
- Support cost analysis, benchmarking and continuous improvement of estimating processes
- Assist with pre-contract procurement, negotiation of contract prices and commercial strategy
- Provide NEC and JCT contract and procurement advice to project teams
About You
- Extensive experience in commercial management within infrastructure, utilities, rail or major capital programmes
- Strong background in pre- and post-contract commercial management
- Proven experience working in principal contract roles
- Confident operating in client-facing or consultancy environments
- Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT forms of contract
- Commercially astute with excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification
- Chartered status (RICS) or actively working towards chartership
- Solid experience across commercial governance, cost control and contract administration
- Right to work in the UK
