Principal Mechanical Engineer

Location: Warrington, Manchester (Hybrid, 3 days/week onsite)

Contract: 12 months

Rate: Β£63 – Β£81/hr (Umbrella, Inside IR35)

Security Clearance: Must be eligible for SC

We\’re recruiting for Senior and Principal Mechanical Engineers to support cutting-edge, safety-critical programmes across the UK\’s defence infrastructure. This is a long-term opportunity with a leading engineering consultancy delivering strategic work across secure sites.

Projects You\’ll Support

The role involves leading mechanical engineering activities on complex decommissioning systems, with a strong focus on mechanical handling, cutting technologies, and integration of bespoke tooling into challenging environments. Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and overseeing delivery of complex mechanical design solutions.
  • Producing, reviewing and approving engineering deliverables including calculations, design specifications, reports and technical assessments.
  • Ensuring engineering work meets regulatory expectations, safety standards and project requirements.
  • Mentoring engineers and promoting high standards of technical performance and safety culture.
  • Key Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng/MEng)
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng)
  • Strong background as a Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer within a highly regulated industry (nuclear, defence, marine, oil & gas, heavy industrial, etc.).
  • Eligible for SC clearance (must have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years)
