Controls & Instrumentation Engineer – Hybrid (Ilkley + Some UK Travel)

An established process engineering firm is looking for a Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to join their team. This is a hybrid role with a 50/50 split between project delivery and customer support, offering variety and technical depth.

The Role

Capital Projects

  • Design control systems for fans, pumps, valves, dampers, and instrumentation

  • Specify and manage subcontractors for panel build, software, and installation

  • Ensure electrical compliance with EN60204, ISO 13849, and IEC 62061

  • Support commissioning and handover on customer sites

  • Produce documentation including FDS, schematics, cable schedules and panel layouts

Customer Support

  • On-site testing, calibration and troubleshooting of control systems

  • Maintain support contracts and respond to breakdowns and service calls

  • Regular UK travel to customer sites, with flexibility on working location

Requirements

  • HNC or above in Electrical Engineering

  • 3+ years in electrical/control design or automation

  • Strong understanding of PLCs, VSDs, and safety systems

  • Experience producing technical documentation from P&IDs and I/O lists

  • Able to manage site visits, testing, and commissioning

  • Clean UK driving licence

Nice to Have

  • Experience in thermal processes, printing, food, or paper industries

  • Familiar with MS Office and electrical design software (AutoCAD, EPlan, etc.)

  • Confident working independently and with clients directly
