A company that specialises in electro-mechanical systems for the Automotive / EV industry is seeking to recruit a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to work from their site in Surrey (1 day per week WFH) with relocation assistance available.
The Role
This position will involve leading the design and development of complex electro-mechanical propulsion systems for the Automotive / EV industry. This senior, hands-on role offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, take ownership of projects throughout the full product lifecycle, and drive innovative engineering solutions within a multidisciplinary, high technology environment.
This will include:
- Spearheading the design, development, and documentation of complex electro-mechanical systems throughout the product lifecycle.
- Leading projects from initial concept through design, testing, commissioning, and production, ensuring successful technical delivery.
- Providing technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers and supporting effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Partnering with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to develop integrated, robust, and standards-compliant solutions.
- Promoting continuous improvement by identifying design optimisation opportunities and delivering innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
- Leading design reviews, risk assessments, and technical validation activities.
- Overseeing and optimising Design for Manufacturability (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) processes.
- Collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and compliant with requirements.
Experience
Ideal candidates will be Principal level Design Engineers with experience in the following areas:
- High Voltage experience.
- Technical Expertise.
- High Volume (or potentially low-mid volume) automotive.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing complex dynamic mechanical systems such as transmission, actuators, powertrain, rotating machinery, or turbomachinery and will demonstrate a strong track record of solving highly complex mechanical engineering problems.
