A company that specialises in electro-mechanical systems for the Automotive / EV industry is seeking to recruit a Systems Engineer to work on a contract based in Surrey that is initially scheduled for 6 months, Outside IR35.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to support the development and specification of next-generation products within a complex engineering environment. The successful candidate will work alongside senior engineering team members to apply structured systems engineering principles, supporting the delivery of safe, secure, and innovative solutions in line with industry standards, including ISO 26262 Functional Safety and ISO 21434 Cybersecurity.

The role requires a strong understanding of systems engineering methodologies, with experience in defining, analysing, and refining end-to-end system architectures. You will contribute to the development of clear system requirements, support architectural design decisions, and provide technical justification for key engineering choices. You will use modelling and analysis techniques to represent system behaviour, assess interfaces, and support effective integration across hardware and software domains. The role will also involve contributing to verification planning, system-level problem solving, and ensuring that the delivered product aligns with the intended design.

Candidates with experience using requirements management tools are highly desirable, as the role includes responsibility for specifying elements of the system and maintaining requirements traceability. As projects progress through later development stages, you will support design verification activities through the creation of test specifications and review of verification results. A strong background in cybersecurity principles and practical experience applying ISO 21434 is essential for this position.

Essential Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience working in a Systems Engineering role
  • Practical experience applying Functional Safety principles (ISO 26262 or equivalent)
  • Practical experience applying cybersecurity standards (ISO 21434 or equivalent)
  • Experience in requirements definition, analysis, and management
  • Experience developing system architectures and conducting engineering trade-off studies
