This full-time, temporary Science Academic Coach position in Birmingham begins immediately and continues until July 2027. Based at a 'Good' secondary school in Edgbaston, the role involves supporting pupils across KS3 and KS4 in biology, chemistry, and physics. Daily duties include leading small group sessions, delivering one-to-one academic support, and assisting with assessment preparation. The position suits a science-related graduate seeking classroom experience prior to teacher training. You will help close learning gaps and raise attainment. Pay ranges from £80 to £100 per day. Strong subject knowledge and clear communication are essential for this intervention-focused role.

The Role:

As a Science Academic Coach, you'll work closely with the science department to support pupils in biology, chemistry, and physics. You'll lead small group sessions, offer one-to-one academic support, and assist in preparing students for assessments and exams. Your work will help boost confidence, close learning gaps, and raise overall attainment in science across the school.

The Candidate:

You should hold a degree in a science subject such as biology, chemistry, physics, or a related field. You'll need strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and a genuine interest in education. Previous experience working with young people - whether in a school, tutoring, or mentoring setting - will strengthen your application.

Requirements

  • Degree - A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication - Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS - Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children - A strong interest in supporting student progress and pursuing a future in teaching.
  • Experience working with children - Any relevant experience such as tutoring, mentoring, or volunteering is desirable but not essential.
