Overview
As a Shift Control Room Operator in Reading, you will join the Wastewater Control team as the initial line of response for operational incidents across the sewage network.
This full‑time secondment lasts 12 months and pays £32,715 to £42,000 depending on experience.
You will oversee performance across 366 treatment works and 7,000 pumping stations, using advanced monitoring tools to identify alarms, assess risks and coordinate urgent actions with field crews.
Your work directly protects customers from flooding and prevents environmental pollution.

Working on a 6‑week rolling shift pattern: 12‑hour day and night shifts, including weekends, with a full week and a full two weeks off within the cycle.

Requirements
- Experience with SCADA systems.
- Knowledge of pumping stations, wastewater treatment works, or network operation.
- Operational experience and an understanding of quality management standards (desirable).
- A proactive, methodical approach to managing high volumes of work.
- Strong analytical skills with good numeracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions quickly.
- Competence with IT systems and Microsoft Office.
- A full UK driving licence to support work from disaster recovery sites (desirable).
