The Private Client Solicitor (Head of Department) in Somerset leads a thriving team across multiple offices, combining technical caseload management with strategic oversight.
This full‑time position requires over ten years’ PQE and offers a salary between £75,000 and £90,000 depending on experience.
Key focus is on driving departmental success through leadership, fostering a collaborative culture, and advancing business development while maintaining excellence in client service.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for the department, driving continued success and ensuring a culture of collaboration, excellence and client care.
- Lead a team across several offices, ensuring consistently high standards of service and supporting growth and development.
- Maintain an independent portfolio of private client matters, advising individuals and families on wills, estate administration, trusts, tax and succession planning, and lasting powers of attorney.
- Identify and deliver business‑development opportunities to grow the practice.
- Supervise complex legal work, support colleagues and sustain outstanding client‑service standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years PQE as a private‑client solicitor.
- Extensive expertise in wills, probate, estate administration and succession planning; trusts experience highly desirable.
- Proven track record of leading, developing and motivating successful legal teams.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify and pursue business‑development opportunities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative and approachable leadership style.
- Confidence in supervising legal work and supporting colleagues while maintaining client‑service standards.
