A Press Operator position is available in Birmingham with Pertemps Specialist Division, offering a permanent, full-time contract. The salary is approximately £29,670 during training, rising to roughly £31,625 once fully trained, including shift allowances. Working 38 hours per week on a weekly rotating pattern of mornings and afternoons, you will finish early every Friday. Your role involves operating modern power presses ranging from 20 tonnes, within a quality-focused production environment. The Role
- Operate power presses ranging from 20 to 250 tonnes
- Manufacture components to engineering drawings and quality specifications
- Complete first-off and in-process inspections
- Use verniers, micrometers, gauges and other measuring equipment
- Ensure components meet the required standards before progressing
- Monitor machine performance throughout production
- Report machine faults and production issues promptly
- Work with Supervisors, Coordinators and Engineers to maximise efficiency
- Follow production schedules and achieve daily output targets
- Complete production records and maintain product traceability
- Support colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment
- Maintain a clean and organised workplace in line with 5S
- Complete manual-handling duties when required
- Following all quality and Health & Safety procedures
What We’re Looking For
- At least two years’ experience within a manufacturing or production environment
- Previous experience operating power presses between 20 and 250 tonnes
- Experience inspecting manufactured components
- Confidence using verniers, micrometers and gauges
- A good understanding of manufacturing quality standards
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic computer literacy

Salary and Shift Pattern
The training rate is £13.20 per hour, increasing to £14.07 per hour following successful completion of training. You will rotate weekly between:
- Morning Shift – 7.5% allowance
- Monday to Thursday: 6:00am–2:00pm
- Friday: 6:00am–12:00pm
- Afternoon Shift – 20% allowance
- Monday to Thursday: 2:00pm–10:00pm
- Friday: 12:00pm–6:00pm
