Overview Pertemps Plymouth is seeking an experienced Service Manager - Child Protection Services to join their team in Plymouth on a full-time, temporary basis.

This 26-week assignment offers a competitive rate of £47.53 per hour PAYE or £62.45 per hour Umbrella, with 37 hours worked weekly.

The role follows a hybrid pattern, requiring three days on site and two days remote.

As a senior leader, you will drive service quality and performance across referral and assessment, children’s social work, and permanency services including fostering.

Strong leadership, decision-making, and safeguarding expertise are essential for this position.

  • Hybrid working (3 days on site, 2 days remote) Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership across referral and assessment, children’s social work, and permanency services (including fostering).

Lead and manage operational children’s services teams; support managers and frontline staff.

Drive performance against statutory and organisational targets while ensuring safeguarding compliance.

Lead service improvement activities and embed best practice across the service.

Provide support, challenge, and direction to managers and team leaders.

Monitor quality assurance activities and implement improvements where required.

Manage budgets and oversee contract activity within the service area.

Build effective relationships with internal and external partners.

Respond to emerging service demands and operational pressures.

About you / Qualifications Credible and experienced leader with a strong background in statutory children’s services.

Confident operating at a senior level, influencing across teams and agencies, and driving improvements in service delivery.

Significant leadership experience within children’s social care.

Strong knowledge of child protection and safeguarding frameworks.

Experience managing operational social work services.

Proven track record of delivering service improvements, with performance management and quality assurance experience.

Budget management experience and ability to manage multiple contracts.

Experience working effectively within multi-agency environments and leading teams through change while maintaining high standards of practice.
