SEND Teaching Assistant in Peacehaven

Teach South is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Peacehaven.

This temporary role offers flexible hours, with a salary between £410 and £480 per annum.

Working closely with teachers and SENCOs, you will deliver one-to-one and small-group assistance, helping students progress academically, socially, and emotionally.

Teach South Sussex is looking to recruit compassionate and experienced SEND Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in schools across the Peacehaven area.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and school staff to provide personalised support, enabling pupils to develop academically, socially, and emotionally in a positive and nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with a range of SEND.
• Assist in the delivery of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised learning strategies.
• Support pupils with communication, social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
• Adapt learning activities in collaboration with teachers to meet individual learning requirements.
• Encourage independence, confidence, and active participation in the classroom.
• Promote positive behaviour and help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents where appropriate.

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a SEND Teaching Assistant or supporting children with SEND in a school or educational setting.
• Knowledge of a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and speech and language difficulties.
• A patient, caring, and proactive approach to supporting children's learning and wellbeing.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or SEND support are desirable but not essential.
• An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one.
