Chef – Newcastle upon Tyne
The Chef role involves preparing and cooking nutritious meals for students within school kitchens, working weekdays during term time. This temporary position with Berkeley Scott offers competitive pay, weekly wages and weekends free. Successful candidates will possess solid culinary experience, strong hygiene knowledge and the ability to manage kitchen tasks efficiently.
This role provides weekday work with excellent work‑life balance, potential for permanent placements, and opportunities for additional shifts in other sectors during school holidays. The position will start in September.
Responsibilities
- Menu preparation and planning in line with school guidelines and dietary requirements.
- Portion control and maintaining food safety standards.
- Ensuring high standards of food hygiene, safety and kitchen cleanliness.
- Managing stock, ordering supplies and minimising waste.
- Supervising and supporting kitchen assistants during service.
- Adhering to all food safety and health & safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 6 months experience as a senior chef – preferably in a school or similar environment.
- Right to work in the UK – sponsorship is not available for these roles.
- Enhanced DBS with child workforce or willingness to obtain – essential.
- Strong, reliable communication skills.
- Passion for providing healthy meals for children and young people.
- Minimum Level 2 Food Safety and Allergens, plus additional compliance training – essential (provided free of charge).
